Status Sunday #8

It’s kind of hard to believe I’ve been writing in this blog for two months now. Time really flies, doesn’t it? It’s been an extremely relaxing day for me. Spent some time cooking and cleaning, but otherwise, I’ve been knitting and listening to a book on tape (Leviathan Wakes by James S. A. Corey, if anyone’s interested in reading; it’s a fantastic bit of sci-fi). Anyway, here’s the update for the last week.

Things I’ve accomplished this week:

  1. Got my draft reviewed for the editor and formatted, so all that’s left is sending it to her on Wednesday. I’m so ready to get Burner to a professional so I can work out that last kinks before publishing.
  2. Continued working on Reader, though not as intensively as I’d like. I honestly need to sit down with the plot and reconfigure things, including rewriting the start of the novel. I think it’ll flow better once I figure out what’s blocking me, too.

Things I’d like to accomplish this week:

  1. Keep writing! I’ve asked my writing group to finish reading Burner and give me some general comments on the novel so I can start bringing them chapters from Reader instead. If I have to get them a chapter a week, it’ll definitely help motivate me to write. Deadlines work, unfortunately.
  2. I seriously need to sit my husband down and get him to write out our Kickstarter plan. He’s a marketing guy, and while he may know what’s going to happen, I don’t. Getting it written down will definitely help my peace of mind when it comes to that.
  3. Keep following up with artists. I’ve got pieces that are pending, and I’m excited to get them finished.

It’s now time for me to go make some dinner, and then I’m going to keep up with the whole relaxation plan for the evening. There are video games with my name on them. You all have a wonderful evening, and I’ll see you tomorrow for our regularly scheduled blog post.

Status Sunday #7

Good morning! I’ve got a busy day today, including a second Christmas with my Indianapolis family, so this is going to be a quick Status Sunday.

Things I’ve accomplished this week:

  1. Morning routine is getting its feet under itself, but writing has not been happening as much during that time as I’d like. That being said, I have worked on Reader every day this week, which is an improvement from last week.
  2. I emailed all of my artists and have received updates and some proofs. Good to have that moving along smoothly.
  3. I also emailed my readers and have gotten feedback from a handful of them. I’ll probably send another email out on the 11th, since that’ll give me exactly a week before I send the draft to the editor.
  4. I did a TON of work on the book’s website yesterday to handle a lot of CSS issues on the site, including reworking the majority of the mobile site. It was very weird to get back into the web dev mindset, but I’m glad my skills weren’t entirely too rusty.

Things I need to accomplish this week:

  1. Actually hit my 1,000 words a goal day. I’ve set a deadline of May 1st for the first draft of Reader being done, and I need to pick up the pace if I’m going to hit that ASAP.
  2. Get a Kickstarter plan written down. We know when we’re going to do it, but I want to get it written out.
  3. Get ISBN’s purchased.
  4. Final review of my draft before sending it off to the editor.

I have to go make mashed potatoes and some carrots for our second Christmas dinner. Talk to you all tomorrow!

Status Sunday #6

Happy New Year, readers! Yes, both of you.*

Here is my (belated) status update for the week!

Things I accomplished last week:

  1. I did not get nearly as much writing done at my folks’ place, but I did get some done. So, not an entire wash.
  2. I did get more art back! Yay!
  3. No business cards, though a lot of work was done on the Facebook pages for both myself and the Affinity Series.

Things I need to accomplish this week:

  1. I’m starting a new routine in the mornings that will include writing, so I’m hoping to get back to my 1,000 words a day goal.
  2. I need to email all of the outstanding artists for progress reports.
  3. I need to email my readers to get feedback from them, no matter where they are in the draft because…
  4. I need to review the draft before sending it to my editor on January 18th.

So, lots to do this week. Hopefully, 2017 will be a good year for me and my writing. See you all Wednesday, when regular blog posts pick back up.

*I plan on continuing to make this same joke for the life of this blog.

Status Sunday #5

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope everyone has had a lovely day with their friends and family, and that you got everything you wanted this year.

Status Sunday is going to be quick, like usual.

Things I’ve accomplished this week:

  1. Some more work has been done on Reader
  2. Another art piece has come in for Burner
  3. Secured a table for my first convention as a writer, which is slightly exciting.

Things I want to work on this week:

  1. I’m at my parent’s place this week for the holiday, so I’m hoping to get a lot of writing done.
  2. Hopefully the remaining art for Burner gets completed, but that’s more on the artists than me.
  3. Maybe get business cards put together, but that’s relatively minor.

Since I’m spending time writing and with my family this week, I’m going to be skipping my blog posts until next Sunday. I hope everyone has a happy holiday season, and I’ll see you all in the new year.

Status Sunday #4

I swear, time is flying lately. Here’s the week in review:

Things I’ve accomplished this week:

  1. Continued working on Reader, though I had to remove a significant chunk due to it being inaccurate. I’ll get the word count back up, but it’s still a little disheartening.
  2. More art came in for Burner, which is always exciting. I should get another three pieces in the next two weeks.

Things I want to work on this week:

  1. Write more! Holiday stuff has been keeping me busy, but I’d like to get focused again on Reader.
  2. Enjoy the holidays with my family. We’re off to Chicago next week to spend nine days with my folks, and I’m really looking forward to it.

See you all tomorrow for our regularly scheduled Monday post.
